Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Bonds has taken steroid tests, but the results never came back positive. He may be a jerk, an arrogant guy, or whatever.... but what he has accomplished is something incredible. I may be the only one here on the east coast cheering him on, but I think he deserves more celebration by MLB. The guy passed a record, that at one time, was thought unbreakable. The legendary Babe Ruth's record, broken by Barry Bonds. All I can say is congrats to Mr. Bonds, go ahead and shoot for 756!

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues I just don't think you honor a guy for reaching 2nd place. I don't care if its Barry or Pujols or whoever. The only argument that I can kind of see is because it's the Babe's mark, though not the career home run record. Just for fun, look through this thread and see how many times #715 is referred to as 'the record'. Astonishing. What do you want MLB to do, have huge banners and a chant of "You're #2! You're #2!" for Barry? I just can't see it.

The best was the 19 year old kid who caught the ball when asked if he liked Bonds and he said "I hate him." Great column today by Wallace Matthews of Newsday entitled "Why Barry Will Never Be King." http://www.newsday.com/sports/column...rts-columnists

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues That is a great article, ThePundit. Thanks for sharing that with us. I did some research and I found out: --On June 4th 1986, Barry Bonds hit his first homerun of his major league career for the Pirates, against Craig McMutry of the Braves at Fulton County Stadium. Where were you at the time this historic baseball shot across the blue skies of Atlanta?

Re: Barry Bonds #714: The Wait Continues That would be tonight. Does he really have a chance with Mark Mulder? For a pitcher who is 5-1 with an ERA of 3.69, I don't think he will be giving Barry Bonds easy 65-MPH tosses for him to smack his #715. If he gives up this historic shot it will become part of his biography (which I don't think he will be pleased with).
