Cool MLB will blow off Bonds

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...v=ap&type=lgns
There will be no celebration when Bonds passes Ruth. How much do you think Selig is praying that Bonds retires before he passes Aaron?

Re: MLB will blow off Bonds

Selig must hate Barry Bonds.

But then again, Barry Bonds did boost America's attention to baseball when he cracked 73 homeruns. But then he destroyed baseball in various ways. Read all about them in my $12.95 hardcover book at Barnes & Nobles! --Haha, there are so many books about how Barry Bonds destroyed baseball and allegations of his steroid use.

Re: MLB will blow off Bonds

Has there ever been a more reviled superstar in baseball? Consider the hype surrounding the milestone-breaking achievements of Aaron, Cal Ripken Jr., Rickey Henderson, McGwire/Sosa and Pete Rose. Though quite a few of these guys were shamed later (Sosa, Rose) or were jackoffs while they were/are playing (Henderson), everyone tuned in and applauded when records fell at their feet.

Perhaps the only comparison to Bonds' problems is Roger Maris and even he didn't so much get negative press as ambivalent press. O, and no respect from the fans.

The upcoming Selig/Bonds war sounds like fun, too. It's sort of like Darh Vader vs. the Emporer: Who do you cheer for in a battle of the two forces symbolic of all that is wrong in baseball?

Cheers.

I would cheer for Selig. Barry Bonds made a mistake which he will live to regret for the rest of his life. Only a few years ago, fans were cheering for him and hoped he would become baseball's top homerun leader. Now, fans are booing him in every ballpark and hope that he retires or is suspended for steroid use. The fans have turned their backs against baseball's top slugger.

This is just so typical of the media controlling how people think. There is no proof that Bonds took steroids. Bonds is becoming the scapegoat for everything that is wrong with baseball. This is a sport. People do things to get an edge. I can't stand this Bonds bashing. It's hard to admit but I think you are right, Bonds probably will not get what he deserves, the recongnition of being the best player in baseball for the last twenty years WITH NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Re: MLB will blow off Bonds

You make a good point, pete_b. All these books do is make allegations. They don't actually reveal proof that Bonds actually took steriods.

And to tell you the truth, this whole issue is the media's fault. They leaked out the news from a private court case. In other words, they were planning to hide the incident from our ears. It is unfortunate that we had to hear such dreadful (shall I say fake) news.

Good. There shouldn't be. No, not because of steroid allegations or anything like that. It's because passing Ruth will only put him in 2nd Place! Since when do we celebrate guys NOT breaking records? If you celebrate Bonds getting to 2nd place, you have to celebrate every time a guy moves up anywhere on the career HR list. That's my opinion, anyway.

Pete: Actually there's a lot of "proof" that he took steroids. And I'm not a court of law. I don't need evidence "beyond a reasonable doubt" to know that Bonds took steroids. If he was a nice guy, he'd be easier not to "bash" but he's an angry, bitter idiot. If he doesn't want to be "bashed" then I suggest he go hide like McGwire, Palmeiro and Sosa are doing.

Although I know it's never goanna happen, I wish Selig would have the guts to take any HR records off the books that McGwire, Sosa and Bonds set since 1997. He can take away Giambi's MVP for all I care.

Re: MLB will blow off Bonds

I read the news today, o boy.

I looked up espn.com at 1am this morning, and "Bonds slugs homer no. 712" was right up there on the headlines board with allegations of sexual assault against Kwame Brown and a Buffalo Sabres victory in one of the early rounds of the eighteen-part Stanley Cup tournament.

Gotta love it. Gotta love Bonds.

Cheers, all.
