Definitely sounds like he plans on coming back. The question is, where and in what capacity. I agree with Empire in that his best chance should be returning as a DH in the American League. Will he take less money to sign with a contender? That'll be interesting to see. I'm sure a lot of teams would take a gamble on him at a reduced rate, and that way he'd have a shot at his ring.

Re: Barry Bonds Leaving the Giants in '08 Im thinking maybe oakland? Barry: "Yesterday, I was told by the Giants that they will not be bringing me back for the 2008 season. During the conversation with Peter McGowan I was told that my play this year far exceeded any expectations the Giants had, but that the organization decided this year would be my last season in San Francisco. Although I am disappointed, I've always said baseball is a business -- and I respect their decision. However, I am saddened and upset that I was not given an earlier opportunity to properly say goodbye to you, my fans, and celebrate with the city throughout the season as I truly believe this was not a last minute decision by the Giants, but one that was made some time ago. I don't have nor do I want any ill feelings towards the organization, I just wish I had known sooner so we had more time to say our goodbyes and celebrate the best 15 years of my life."

Re: Barry Bonds Leaving the Giants in '08 It's the pennant-race time of year, but as you've no doubt heard, there's another bit of news in baseball right now: Barry Bonds' days as a San Francisco Giant are over. Bonds will play in '08 Barry Bonds' days as a Giant are done, but his agent says the slugger will play in '08. But where? Ken Rosenthal takes a look. Bonds recently had a discussion with team owner Peter Magowan, and he was informed that the team would not seek to re-sign him this winter. Despite the end to his tenure in San Francisco, where he's toiled since 1993, the all-time home run king says he'll play at least one more season, and his priority will be saddling up with a team that's got designs on the World Series. So the question becomes: where? Presently, the 43-year-old Bonds leads the NL in on-base percentage and ranks fifth in slugging percentage, so he can still rake. His level of productivity and his box-office appeal mean he'll be able to command a hefty price tag. Sure, he's got more baggage than Samsonite, but some teams will be willing to overlook Bonds' sordid history. With all that in mind, let's lay some super-early odds on where he'll wind up ... Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim — 30% chance At this stage of his career, Bonds is best suited to DH duty in the American League, and the Angels could certainly use a DH (and some left-handed power). They'd allow Bonds to remain in California, they'd be able to pay him top dollar, and they could promise him a legitimate shot at winning the World Series. It's a fit. Oakland A's — 25% chance The A's, it just so happens, will also be in need of a DH before next season. Mike Piazza's one-year contract will be up, and perhaps they could leverage their Bay Area locale to persuade Bonds to sign a "hometown" contract (otherwise, they won't be able to afford him). GM Billy Beane covets guys who get on base and hit for power, and no one does that better than Bonds. Los Angeles Dodgers — 20% chance As mentioned, Bonds really doesn't need to be playing the field these days, but the Dodgers might be inclined to overlook his shortcomings with the glove. Luis Gonzalez is a pending free agent, and that leaves a hole in left field. As well, the Dodgers need more power, GM Ned Colletti loves to play the veteran hand, and they've got the deep pockets. On another level, Bonds in Dodger blue would be a nifty way to stick it to the hated Giants. New York Mets — 15% chance Like the Dodgers, the Mets will also be in the market for a left fielder this off-season. Shea's a pitcher's environment, but it's actually not too tough on left-handed power hitters. With the outfield depth the Mets have in the fold, they could afford to spell Bonds as needed. Also, the money's not an issue for New York. New York Yankees — 5% This is a stretch, and it would create a bottleneck for the Yankees. However, you can't count the Yankees out when it comes to conspicuous, high-dollar moves. They could shift Giambi to first and give Bonds regular DH duty with occasional time in the outfield. Highly unlikely, but hey, it's the Yankees. Some other team — 5% It's tempting to speculate about Boston, but with Manny Ramirez under contract through next season and David Ortiz firmly entrenched in the DH spot, that's not going to happen. The Mariners, who need DH production? The White Sox, who need help in left field? The Cardinals? These kinds of affairs are hard to predict, so some other team could certainly enter the fray. All in all, the forthcoming Hot Stove League just got a little bit hotter. Stay tuned.

Re: Barry Bonds Leaving the Giants in '08 He hit 28 Homers in 125 games this season. That has to be worth something. I like the Yanks to sign him cause Giambi is near worthless, I mean seriously he's had a REALLY bad season this year. Drop him and get Bonds in there. I do however believe Tampa has a chance to get him.

Re: Barry Bonds Leaving the Giants in '08 Yanks won't get him, no room. Giambi won't be playing first more than he DH's. They won't jsut get rid of him, too much money they would have to eat. I'd count on him to stay West.
