Dusty Baker returning to Giants?

It's an odd rumor, I'll give you that, but the Chicago Sun Times is reporting that if the Cubs don't give manager Dusty Baker a contract extension, than his former employers, the San Francisco Giants, are one of the teams interested in his services for next year.

Writes columnist Ron Rapoport: "...there's speculation he might return to the Giants. The San Francisco Chronicle notes that Felipe Alou is 70, the average age of the Giants' Opening Day roster was over 34 and the team is due for significant changes soon. So why not bring back Baker, who was successful and popular during his 10 years as the Giants' manager -- and who still considers the Bay Area home -- to start all over again?"

True, Alou is getting up there in years and probably won't be able to manage much longer. But why do back to Baker instead of injecting some new blood into the franchise? This wouldn't make sense in my eyes.

Who would want Dusty Baker to begin with?

Re: Dusty Baker returning to Giants?

I would love to have Bakes back. Him or Rags. When Dusty left in 03 I wanted us to hire Raghetti, but we hired ****in slapdick Felipe Alou. I've never liked the guy, and if you'll notice, he's never made a managerial decision that would make a person say, "wow, what a good idea!" The guy never talks to his players and he relies on a good team to execute in order for him to be sucessful. If the gameplan isn't executed correctly(i.e. starter goes 6-7 and offense gives us the lead, Munter pitches perfect relief, Kline pitches perfect 8th, Worell gets the save} the guy doesn't know what the hell to do. For example, our most reliable pitcher thus far, Jamie Wright, goes all the way to the 7th for the 3rd straight time this season and with two outs and a runner on third, Felipe decides he's seen enough of him. So he brings in Fassero and he gives up a base hit right away. Why in the **** wouldn't you let Wright take a shot at the third out?! If he gives up the run, big deal! He has definitely earned the right to give it a shot to get that out. Why in the **** are you gonna waste our talented pitchers in the pen like Kline and Worrell when Wright would've gotten the job done. The ****in' guy doesn't know how to win a laugher and let the vets take the night off (Case in point: Matheny is scratched from the lineup but has to catch in the bottom of the 8th) What the **** is this guys problem!? Roger Craig could call a better game from his ****in' rocker!

Out

Re: Dusty Baker returning to Giants?

Dusty Baker was part of the Giants' 2003 World Series run. I think you should keep that in mind, legend.

Re: Dusty Baker returning to Giants?

I still have in my mind him pulling Ortiz and watching his World Series hopes go flying out of the window in Game Six.
