Yes, he does. I've never questioned that. But if he expects to be treated with the same respect of Hammerin Hank, he needs to start showing us some love. Ot at least tolerance. Like I said in my post, he is/was great. But it does not make him a great person. |

| Re: Barry Bonds Ties Hank Aaron I'd watch if I could remember the fact he's on a west coast swing lately and the games are late. Sure he did steroids, sure most everyone during the same period did them. Is he a cheat, depends on your POV. But it is a historical moment nonetheles. |

| Re: Barry Bonds Ties Hank Aaron Every MLB player uses some kind of drug to enhance their performance, but we are just starting to recognize this. What about Babe Ruth using corked bats to hit his home runs? Oh yeah, we don't complain about that. That's because no one knew he did that at the time. With the steroids speculation, the fans now have knowledge of this when players have been cheating forever now.

| Re: Barry Bonds Ties Hank Aaron Plenty of proof? Okay, let's look at the proof. Game of Shadows presents interesting allegations. But if this BALCO calender and other such evidence of Bonds steroids usage exists, why are we here, four years later, with the feds investigating Barry for nothing more than tax evasion? Why do we instantly believe that these authors are credible sources? I'm read some pretty bad hatchet jobs in my time (see "Under the Tarnished Dome" for a book filled with false allegations and misquotes). His physique? Circumstantial evidence. His ex-girlfriend? Could be the delusional rantings of someone trying to exact revenge for a relationship gone bad. Any positive drug tests yet? No? Hmm, how about that. I'll admit I believe Barry most likely used them, but all this "overwhelming evidence" wouldn't be worth a hill of beans in a court of law.

I have Zero respect for MLB, for turning a blind eye, and I'm a bit disappointed in myself for not being more suspicious. Part of the appeal of sports is what these guys do, allegedly with God given ability and hard work. Now we have the unfortunate distinction of living with at lest 15-20 years of lies. Seems to me the last pure moment, I mean big moment, that will be remembered, is Ripken's record. How sad just about everything else is now suspect. Bonds, Mcguire, and Sosa just have to bad fortune of being the poster boys for a corrupt generation of players. And that is a shame, as much as I don't like Barry, he was a great player without steroids, or whatever drug he is/was on. The only thing he would not have had without the juice was the home run record. His legacy is tainted, just like a lot of these other players. I would like to see every player tested every couple of weeks, but the cost would be high, and we will never see it. All the sports need to clean up their act. I have no interest is seeing "fake" athletes. |
