| Re: Barry slumping, Giants winning Well, he's got 12 official ABs and only 2 hits. Sure, he getting walked, but he isn't exactly taking advantage of the opportunities he DOES have, either. But the other guys in the lineup are picking him up when he's on base, and that's a surprise to me. Yes, its still early, but Barry's supporting cast appears to be much better than I assumed it would be to this point. |

| Re: Barry slumping, Giants winning Bonds is now 4-for-23 on the year after going 0-2 with a walk and a HBP in yesterday's game with the Dodgers - ironically, another Giants win. Vizquel, Winn and Alou are all hitting over .300 on the year. |

| Re: Barry slumping, Giants winning Cheers Marc et al. Interestingly phrased question here: Quote:
This could be interpreted in any number of ways. As for his act to the press, fans, etc., probably not. Bonds will be branded with bad boy status on a level of say, Ty Cobb, for the rest of his career no matter how many he wins over with his reality show. As for his performance at the plate, which Bonds shall we consider? The Bonds of the recent past, which we'll refer to as The Completely Statistical Legitimate Era of Steriods, c. 2000-2005, in which Bonds averaged .338 with about 51 homers per season or the 1980s and 90s Bonds which averaged approximately .288 with 32 homers? After all, Bonds has never been 42 years old and played, um, without certain medicinal assistance. As for his acting, nah, he'll never get it together. Incidentally, does anyone know the viewing stats of Bonds' godawful show? Cheers, all.

| Re: Barry slumping, Giants winning Ask and you shall receive, Os! "ESPN’s first telecast of its reality-based documentary, Bonds on Bonds, which follows Barry Bonds on and off the field in his chase for the MBL all-time home run record, recorded a 0.4 household rating." - MediaWeek By the way, the "MBL" error is theirs, not mine. Furthermore, it failed to crack the top 15 in the cable Nielsens: http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,272|||cable,00.html |

The more this season progresses (yes, i know we're hardly in it), what with the flop TV show, the fans booing him when he comes up to bat (Who booed Hammerin' Hank when he was closing in on the babe except for racist pigs?), the Giants probably not making the playoffs, the grand jury, etc. etc., i think he's going to retire at season's end, no matter how close he is to Hank. Anybody else? What's the over/under on Bonds' retirement age? Cheers. |

| Gotham: You must be the only one watching The Bonds Reality show: The two episodes on ESPN rated 0.5, meaning one in every 200 ESPN households tuned in. Last year at this time ESPN averaged 0.6 in a similar slot, mostly with SportsCenter. For critics of Bonds and of the show, indifference is the best revenge. |

| Re: Barry slumping, Giants winning I'm not sure. But if he continues the season on pace he should finish up with only 11 homeruns and a horrible 21-RBIs. Do you think he will call it quits before he reaches the Babe? |

| Re: Barry slumping, Giants winning Marc, i figure he'll call it a day exactly when he damn well feels like it. I'm betting he's too proud to go the Jose Canseco route, where he's 46 years old and has 750 homers on a quest to break the record once he gets off the Albuquerque Isotopes' roster... As for the low ratings of Bonds' show, can we inform Vince McMahon about this? The XFL could get higher ratings than one in 200, i'm sure. Cheers, all. |
