Key phrase is "MEDIA JUMPS TO CONCLUSIONS". Nothing new there. When the record is broken many of those who hate him will be part of the celebration. Records today just don't hold the same high honor they once did just because so many have been proven guilty of using performance enhancing additives ... or whatever.

I'm not a BB fan, but I think Selig is being an idiot about BB's HR record chase - this whole "will he be there when he breaks the record, will he not be there" crap is silly. Selig NEEDS to be there, for the good of the game as a whole.

Re: Barry Bonds home run watch

I just saw Bonds hit another HR. He is one back from Aaron. I am getting excited about this chase even with all the negative publicity.

Anyone else noticing less negative media coverage the closer Bonds gets to the record, or is it just my imagination?

Barry Bonds should be happy Tim Donaghy and Micheal Vick are alive because if the coverage was on him i wouldn't be able to watch sportscenter.

As I noted, the closer he gets to the record the more fans he will accumulate. After he breaks it you'll hear "I've been a fan of his since he played in the minors."

Hmm, yeah, maybe that's it. Maybe Bonds is just slipping down on the list of sports villians now that the media has those two to kick around.

Re: Barry Bonds home run watch

Well, no luck for Bonds against the Marlins on Sunday.

His next opportunity to tie Aaron comes Tuesday, against the Dodgers in L.A. He's scheduled to face starter Mark Hendrickson.

Re: Barry Bonds home run watch

Bonds is really struggling. His swing is totally out of whack, and according to the Associated Press, "Bonds' .186 average in July was his lowest in a month since April 1991 when he hit .177, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. That includes months in which he had at least 15 at-bats." He's 1-for-12 with eight walks since his last home run on Friday. At this rate, he may never tie or pass Aaron.

You think its bad outside of the bay area, try living here. I just want him to get that blasted home run and the one that tops the record just so the media sensation will reach a climax and eventually go away.

Smile Re: Barry Bonds home run watch

I don't know why all these people have such an intense hatred for Barry Bonds. I am a big Barry Bonds fan and I admit that there is a very good chance that he did steroids. When people compare Bonds to Ruth or even Aaron that is just ridicules. The incredible ways the game has change especially since Ruth is insane. Ruth never faced a 100 mile an hour fastball. They also had only like three different pitches. There was also a lot of corruption back in that time. Ever seen the movie 8 men out? Ruth has never faced a pitcher like Gagne or the many others that were on steroids. He never faced such a long season or a grueling schedule. Even with Hank Aaron which was much more recent. They never had personal trainers, dietitians, and the "allowed" new medicines. Cortisone is technically a steroid now its not nearly a big as anabolic steriods. Bonds is baseball he knows the game. His record stands on it own. I am not just talking about the Home runs either his 500 stolen bases, the numerous golden gloves and MVP awards. Everyone nowadays just watches EPSN were it is just a bunch of failed athletes gibing there opinion to a bunch of failed athletes that watch it. They jump on whatever bandwagon or sensational story has come along that week. Bonds never shouted at someone trying to make a catch or hit someone in the arm when running to first base like ESPN's golden boy A rod. I am just saying keep everything in perspective. I use to think Barry Bonds was just a really good all around player with a great swing. Then when over the age of 40, when there is almost 0 chance of him using steriods with everyone wishing that he would just retire and some people wishing serious harm on him. He broke the record. With all the scrutiny with his age and health problems. With his fathers death. He broke the record and he didnt do it to prove it to any one. He did it because he is a gamer. He loves the game of baseball. He didnt get into the Major leagues cause of steriods he didnt have a hall of fame record because of steroids. All you bonds haters need to look at the records. Look at some of your favorite players see if they had any jumps in there stats. See if they have had a serious drop offs in the last couple of years. Manny Ramirez hit 20 home runs last year. Ortiz only had 35. A Rod only had 35. These are players that were hitting 50 plus homeruns just 3 or 4 years ago. Do your own research and stop watching ESPN its bad for you
