Cool Bonds sues book's authors

To be honest I'm surprised. I didn't think Bonds would want to make any of this public. Now maybe we'll get some facts out.

I'd be shocked if this thing ever went so far as a deposition. But then again, I didn't think he'd sue. So who knows? Any opinions?

I'm glad he's suing. Now at long last we'll actually learn the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I wonder who all will ultimately be called to testify in the trial. Sheffield? The authors? Some of the books sources? Hopefully Bonds himself will take the stand.

I think they ought to give the case to Judge Judy. She would dispense of all this nonsense in no time.

Re: Bonds sues book's authors

Well the media reports that the judge denied Bonds' request. It turns out he was suing to freeze the book's profits from going to the authors. He based his suit on the way the authors obtained information. Since they got some of their information from a leaked grand jury testimony, his lawyers argued it was illegal to publish the information.

Even if the request was granted, Barry probably would not even have made a statement. His strategy was not to sue for defamation, but to sue based on how the information was obtained. This smart little play made it so he would not have to testify that the information in the book was untrue.

Would you vote someone into the HOF with these lifetime numbers?:
*Average stats over 13 seasons: .289 BA, 105 R, 94 RBI, 32 HR, and 34 SB
*411 HRs/445 SBs

Those are Bonds' stats before he got jealous of Mark McGwire

Re: Bonds sues book's authors

Well, as of September 1999, only two eligible members of the 400 home run club had not been elected to the Hall of Fame -- Darrell Evans and Dave Kingman. So if you eliminate steroids and take away the inflated home-run numbers of the past several seasons, I'd have to say yes, especially considering Barry's 400-400 status.

My vote is for Shoeless Joe Jackson Mr. I will take the money and then hit over .300 in the series anyway...he paid his debt to the game with a lifetime ban...I'd vote him in...especially since Bonds, Sosa and McGwire will get there...

Also, you just can stop Bonds at the 400-400 mark...he would still have posted pro-rated numbers...juice or no juice he would have gotten 500 HRs...

If the writers had some guts they would keep McGwire, Bonds AND Sosa out- period. That would send a clear message, wouldn't it?

Ah, but my puriest friend...has Shoeless Joe paid his debt to the game?...Should he be allowed in?...Does a baseball ban take away what was accomplished in a career prior to a mistake?....
