Giants Finaliez Bonds Deal

The deal between the San Fran Giants and Barry Bonds was finalized earlier today. A one-year, $15.8 million deal with an interesting clause. According to the Associated Press, if Bonds is indicted by the federal government at any point during the length of the contract, the Giants can instantly void the deal and release Bonds.

Is the heat on?

Cool Re: Giants Finaliez Bonds Deal

I hope Bonds gets indicted if that will get him out of baseball.

Bonds agent says that it's unenforcable, because of the collective bargaining agreement. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Barry isn't a part of the player's union, right? I mean, I thought that was the whole reason he never appears in the MLB baseball video games. So how can the collective bargaining rules apply to him? And even if they did, doesn't he have the power to waive those rights in his contract?

**UPDATE**

Quote:
Complicating matters, Bonds' contract was not approved by the commissioner's office because it contained a personal-appearance provision, a baseball executive said Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because those details had not been made public.

He's a member of the MLBPA however, he doesn't allow them to use his likeness and whatnot.

The same thing with Michael Jordan back in the day.

Thanks for clearing that up, Empire, I appreciate it! By the way, the latest rumor is that Bonds has NOT signed the contract, and his agent has advised him not to do so. So I guess the deal isn't quite done just yet, eh?

Re: Giants Finaliez Bonds Deal

Lefty, I guess the "reporters" jumped the gun. Shocking?

I was a bit surprise Bonds would've been allowed to sign such a deal and it looks like his agent will try to fight it.

Re: Giants Finaliez Bonds Deal

Well, he has officially signed now. According to the AP, "Barry Bonds finally signed his $15.8 million, one-year deal and it was approved Thursday by the commissioner's office, ending more than two months of wrangling between the slugger and the San Francisco Giants over contract language... With both sides satisfied, Bonds is scheduled to report Monday to spring training. He is likely to participate in the Giants' first full-squad workout Tuesday."

I hope that everyone can finally get off of Barry's back and let him get back to playing baseball. This will probably be his last year. Let him get his 22 HR's and he will leave baseball, OK?
