Giants Sign Barry Zito

Wow. The Giants signed Zito to a seven year, $126 Million deal according to sources. Yahoo! is where I saw it first.

Wow, talk about over paying...not just in money but in years. Looks like Boras got what he wanted. The Giants needed something like this to elevate their ballclub.

I knew the Mets fans were out of luck. He has said all along he wanted to stay on the west coast. How is he going to be treated next year during interleague play. He went to the enemy.

West coast, Shmest coast. If the Mets would have offered him $126 million and 1 cent, he would have come to NY and told everyone "it's not about the money," - just like he'll say about signing with SF.

Re: Giants Sign Barry Zito

Not to rain on the parade, but I have always felt that Zito is overrated. Is he a very good number two? Yes. Is he an ace? No.

Zito relies heavily on his moster curve, and rightfully so because it is his best pitch. His change is solid, but his fastball is comfortably average. Whenever he falls behind in the count, he gets hammered by patient hitters. Whenever his curve isn't breaking, he gets hammered by everyone. Oakland was the perfect situation for Zito. He was a flyball pitcher in an expansive park with superlative outfield defense.

Re: Giants Sign Barry Zito

What an amazing agent Scott Boras is. I can't believe what a great deal he managed to get Zito.

But then, consider his body of work over the years. $100 million from the Dodgers for Kevin Brown. $13 million per season from the Texas Rangers for Chan Ho Park. The $252 million dollar deal he got for A-Rod.

How crazy is the Zito deal? As AP Sports Columnist Jim Litke says, "On the other hand, if he wins 18 games every season over the life of the deal, Zito is still costing the Giants $1 million for each one."

Wow. Great point! I can't wait until Zito goes up to the podium and says: "It's not about the money." Just tell the truth and say : "It's ONLY about the money."

Re: Giants Sign Barry Zito

I can't think of a team I would have liked to see him with less, then the San Fransisco Giants. Not only is this team going nowhere next year, but they're also wasting Zito's talent.

But on the other hand, maybe they're preparing to build a championship team in '08, putting some pieces together ahead of time.

All I know is that I would have much rather seen him in a New York uniform...

Boras is basically the devil, and the devil is very good at what he does.

So now the Giants are overpaying Bonds AND Zito? The Padres and the Dodgers thank you, Boras, for making the Giants unable to assemble any young talent.
