| Re: Giants Negotiating With Carlos Lee, Juan Pierre If I were a general manager, I would chase down Lee and Pierre. Lee and Pierre are younger than Barry Bonds. Lee > Bonds Pierre is quicker than Bonds. |

| Re: Giants Negotiating With Carlos Lee, Juan Pierre No way should they keep Bonds. For his salary I suspect they can sign both these guys, and they need to become a more balanced team if they want to contend in the west. Lee and Pierre would be nice additions, and if they could then add some pitching, they could look awful good in 2007.

| Re: Giants Negotiating With Carlos Lee, Juan Pierre I don't understand why Carlos Lee isn't a magnet this off-season. Considering he is one of the best hitters in the game, you would expect people to be interested in him. Instead, they are interested in acquiring other players who aren't even free-agents through trading. |

| Re: Giants Negotiating With Carlos Lee, Juan Pierre They need to take the money they've been paying Bonds and start rebuilding this team. They've had some great years, but the writing is on the wall. With the 06 roster they would lose ground in 07. Both Lee and Pierre are overrated. Lee strikes out too much and his power will be limited in ATT. Pierre has a poor OBP for a lead-off guy. Latest rumors are Lee is going to Houston anyway, that's where he's from. Giants are talking to Pierre and Gary Matthews Jr.. Matthews Jr. was 17th best defensive outfielder last year and the Giants need to improve their defense. Up the middle is the most important area for solid defense and Gary plays CF. He's no Lee or certainly Bonds offensively, so they would still need to get another bat or two, but Gary does have some pop and speed and a solid batting average - he is not an offensive liability. I think picking up Matthews Jr. would be a good start to this offseason. |
