Re: Jerry Rice to retire - again?

I've been hearing this story all weekend - that later on this month, Jerry Rice is going to retire as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. All I can this of is, what the bleep? Isn't he already retired? So why come back and assign a one-day contract (which I assume is how this will go down) and retire again? And doesn't this push back his Hall of Fame eligibility?

Jerry has now ofically retired from football. Last year he would have played if a team would have offered him a contract. Shoot, he wanted to do this last year, but York wouldn't let him. Jerry wanted to retire as a member of the team that he was a member of for so long. Roger Craig did it, why not Jerry? Yes, since Jerry signed a contract this year, it will move back his eligibility for the Hall of Fame by a year. But, I have also heard rumors that a bunch of people want to waive the waiting period for him. Guarenteed he is a first time entry, probably unaminously.

Oh, no doubt about it, he's a first ballot Hall of Famer, and he better be unanimous. I would love to meet the guy who doesn't think Jerry Rice is a Hall of Fame player. They don't call him the G.O.A.T. for nothing!

Cool Re: Jerry Rice to retire - again?

I lost a lot of respect for Rice when he asked Steve Largent to un-retire his number. Rice was way out of line. And I wonder if it were reversed, would he do the same?

Re: Jerry Rice to retire - again?

Could you imagine if the San Francisco 49ERs refuse to sign a one-day contract with their former star wide-out, Jerry Rice? That would be hilarious and yet embarrasing. I liked Jerry Rice when he played and I even wore a nose-strap just like him when I played quarter-back. I thought it made me looked cool and tough, but it didn't make a difference. I ending up finishing off in last place after a 13-0 record the year before.
