Re: Alex Smith

So what about Alex Smith, the San Francisco 49ers second-year quarterback? We've discussed how important his improvement will be to the Niners chances to be a good team this year? We've all read countless articles on him, including one in this thread that says he "will be like an anchor for a boat which holds the team down."

And then this article says "Although he just turned 22, Smith is sounding more and more like a veteran quarterback, rather than the rookie who had trouble holding onto the ball last season for a 49ers offense that finished ranked last in the league. If the 49ers are to make a move up from the bottom of the league standings, Smith is going to have to play better... for the most part, rookie passers look don't jump right in and own the league. Patience is needed, even if most don't want to give it."

So put on your prognosticator's cap. What kind of season does Alex Smith have in 2006?

Re: Alex Smith

Alex Smith in 2006: 2400 yds passing 14 TDs 22 INTS. Hes very young and itll take him a while to blossom but yes, I think hell be a successful QB in NFL.

Wrong!... ...he will pile up a bit more yards and possibly less TD's...let me take a shot at this 425 ATT 227 COMP 3,170 YARDS 11 TD 20 INTS...that's my stat and I am sticking to it...

Re: Alex Smith

Re: Alex Smith

I for one would be most surprised if Smith throws for 3,000 yards, but he definitely will have more picks than TDs.

Why?...its inherit in the sunk and dink West Coast Offense all he has to avaerage is about 180 yards a game more or less...and the 49ers will have to throw often since they will fall behind often...want to change your vote?

Re: Alex Smith

Norv Turner's their new offensive coordinator, and everything I see points to them not using the West Coast offense this season. In fact, according to Scout.com, "As for his offensive philosophy, Turner outlined his thoughts of using a power running game and making big plays in the passing game." Care to change YOUR vote?

Nope...they don't have a power running game...and I do not consider their corps of receivers deep threat...I think they are going to use Frank Gore and Gore is not going to carry a heavy load. Smith is better suited to run a West Coast offense...but we will see...whatever they run...a team that is going to lose 10-12 games this year is going to throw for over 3,000 yards trying to play catch up...
