49ers claim QB Wright off waivers

The San Francisco 49ers claimed and were awarded rookie QB Kyle Wright off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings. The 49ers also waived first-year QB Drew Olson in order to make room for Wright on the roster.
Wright (6-3, 220) was signed by Minnesota as a rookie free agent in April following the draft. He was waived by the Vikings on July 2, 2008. Wright finished his final season at Miami by passing for 1,747 yards with 12 touchdowns and rushing for 66 yards and three touchdowns.

Re: 49ers claim QB Wright off waivers

I don't know why, but the more I think about it the better decission this is for the niners. If Smith or Hill don't work out (and there is no guarantee they will) Wright could jump up the depth chart. I highly doubt it, but the niners haven't been the best at keeping healthy QB's on the field so it's good to have another guy you fall back on. Look at it this way, he's a better 3rd string QB then Drunkenmiller! LMAO remember that guy? ya...

It's a decent signing, but realistically, neither Wright nor Olsen would/would have ever seen the field, barring catastrophe.

I think its a decent signing too. You cant count out a catastrophe in the NFL. And like shaynap says, neither of the other two have proved anything yet so the Niners arent that far away from it happening. Who knows? Dont laugh at third string qbs. That was Romo in the not so distant past.
