| Re: Foster to struggle for playing time? I don't remember anybody saying the niners were looking to trade Gore after signing Foster, and I'm not sure why anybody would suggest that scenario. I do remember the theory behind it was to spell Gore, and Foster being used to a two back system was the perfect fit to give Gore some rest. Gore afterall had some bad injuries coming out of collage and I think needs somebody to rest him. I don't see Robinson becoming the guy to spell Gore. Foster is proven, and there have been high hopes and talk about Robinson taking that roll last year. Despite all of his potential so far he's been an underachiever. Foster will be the guy. This write-up looks more to me like some fuel to burn fosters desire and get him going. Foster is the 2nd best back in SF, and Robinson is not the short yardage back they need either. The backup to Gore will only be a change of pace, give Gore some rest, kind of RB. Robinson does some things well, but running the ball there are very fiew sittuations that Gore or Foster can't do without him...unless it's the trick play...interesting?... |

The thing about Gore being traded, I think there was some question after they got Martz that Gore wasnt the style of running back Martz was used to. I dont believe the 49ers said it, I think it was just an idea floating around.

| Re: Foster to struggle for playing time? Well ok, I never heard that idea floating myself. I wouldn't have paid attention to the idea if I had read it. Trading a 1,600 yard back after signing an 800 yard back...And Foster isn't exactly a Martz kind of back either. In fact Gore was better in the passing game then Foster before Martz came to town. But you're right, Foster isn't good in short yardage, neither is Gore or Robinson. I'm not sure what they're going to do to improve in that area...throw? lol But Robinson I guess was supposed to become the short yardage guy that I honestly doubt he'll ever become. He's got great physical tools, power back though I don't think is one of them. |
