Smith, Hill beginQB competition

As a result of one of coach Nolan's brainstorms, a medley of classical tunes from NFL films blared across camp. Coach Nolan figures players must learn to persevere through loud noise on Sundays. Apparently it didnt have a calming affect on TE Vernon Davis who ripped off LB Parys Haralson's helmet during a fight.
But at the center, were Alex Smith and Shaun Hill taking snaps in a competition that will likely last for three months.

Just starting so the playing field is still level yet.

I say if Smith is healthy he gets the job. He was considered an up and coming QB until the injury last season. They give him another shot.

I never saw that out of Smith sure he had one year he went 16TD16INT still never posted over a 100% paser rating are 300 yard game but now with Hill on his heels maybe just maybe it will light a fire in him but my hopes are on Hill, thanks for the post Bette.

the year above you quoted was his first year as a starter. He seems to be a little heavy on the interceptions, but he's still a young quarterback. In his rookie year he had 1 td and 11 interceptions. In 07 in 7 games he had 2 TD and 4 int. Actually I thought he was better than that until I looked at the numbers. So if he doesnt get that fire lit in him this year, it definitely wont be his job. Its not his job to lose, its his job to win..

Re: Smith, Hill beginQB competition

If I were a Niner fan i'd want Shaun Hill as the quarterback. At least he's tough and with an improved line and Frank Gore at 100% I would take him as fantasy football backup anyday. Leave Alex Smith as a bust and a backup. Maybe some other team will want him

Great move to make these two quarterbacks show what they got and then make a choice. I just think this is the last chance for Alex Smith to prove he can be successful. I also think think that Shaun Hill is a solid quarterback and will win the job easily.

Definitely. I love it that Nolan is tossing out who was drafted when and who makes such and such amount of money and making Smith and Hill compete to see who can help the Niners be a better team.
