San Francisco selects Chilo Rachal

With their 2nd round pick, #39 overall, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Chilo Rachal, OG, USC. Good pick?

Re: San Francisco selects Chilo Rachal

Chilo is just a fat slob of a blocker. He's a mammoth and has strong run blocking skills, but his technique is garbage and he seems clumsy in pass protection. Honestly I'm not sure why they didn't draft one of the other linemen around there who have better technique or intagibles...bad pick I think.

Re: San Francisco selects Chilo Rachal

Initially I thought WTF! I mean Chilo wasn't the guy I considered the best lineman on the board at the time. But after looking him up more I realize he's a pure run blocker type. Without Larry Allen they'll need to restart that line with some young power. With Gabe Watson(Arizona), La'Roi Glover(St.Louis), and Rocky Bernard(Seattle) they need some interior push and he gives it. Too bad he sucks at pass blocking, but they'll actually get some push with him. Hopefully the niners WR's will fair better this year with the run game back on track? If Chilo can make a difference in the run game that is. GL

Re: San Francisco selects Chilo Rachal

They must feel like they can teach him technique, and went with the best power lineman on the board. If what you guys say is true, he should definitely help open up some holes for Gore this year, which would make this a worthwhile pick. I guess the jury's out till training camp, eh?
