Martz Says That The Lions Weren’t Good During a “Chalk Talk” session held for fans at an event in Tahoe, Nevada, 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz didn’t discuss only the strategies for making the O’s run circles around the X’s. He also shared some thoughts about the Detroit Lions, the team that fired him after the 2007 season. “In Detroit we were not a good football team,” Martz said. “We were last in the NFL on defense and when you have to throw the football to win, that’s not a good thing. We weren’t good enough on the offensive line to protect [quarterback Jon Kitna] and throw the ball like we did. When I was with the Rams, we were. The number of hits on the quarterback when I was with the Rams near the end of my time there was about the middle of the pack. In the early goings, it was actually very low and we were ranked near the best in the league.” ProFootballTalk.com - MARTZ SAYS THAT THE LIONS WEREN’T GOOD

Besides, Martz and the Lions are getting a little old. One of them is always bashing the other. No love lost there I tell you.

Re: Martz Says That The Lions Weren’t Good good analysis dusty. you seem very knowledgeable about the 49ers. their defense would be stacked if they could add depth to their d-line. maybe adding a run stuffing d-tackle and a strong pass rushing d-end. their offense looks bad right now. their offensive line is very week, they have no quarterback, however the running backs are there with gore and foster, the receivers look ok with the addition of bruce but he is aging, and te is set with vernon davis. I'm guessing that with the track record Mike Martz has he will throw the ball about 70% of the time, which will result in no offensive balance and give the niners a 6-8 win season.

Re: Martz Says That The Lions Weren’t Good Well the Niners have parts of a good team, in fact i'd go so far as to say just about all of the major components EXCEPT a passing attack and a passing attack is oh so necessary if you want to be a serious contender. Still I think the defense the Niners have is more important as lots of teams have somehow found a quarterback in the strangest places to make things click for an aerial attack (Romo, Brady, Blake, Plunkett, etc.) so with Martz maybe he can use that offensive mind to get someone cuz Smith is a dud. That's the bad news for the San Francisco 49ers. They need to realize that Alex Smith cannot and will not get the job done, get past that and get a pro quarterback this way they can head to the playoffs and start making some noise.
