The San Francisco 49ers have terminated the contract of QB Trent Dilfer.

According to the Associated Press, "He didn’t play at all in his first season with the 49ers in 2006, instead serving as a mentor to Smith. After last season, Dilfer said he hoped to continue playing, but he also prepared for life after football with a temporary job as a studio analyst for the NFL Network... Dilfer would have received a $500,000 roster bonus if he still was with the 49ers on March 15."

Good for him...for those of us who remember his Tampa days, he hung around a lot longer than we thought he would.

I'll miss him. He's a decent guy and a decent player. Not outstanding on the football field, but he knew how to manage a game.

That's a little harsh, don't you think? Dilfer's been a solid backup QB in the league for a long time now. He's better than anything the Bears have.

Plus, he was the starting QB of a super bowl team. He is not great, but there isn't a big list of QBs that have one.

Actually, he could be a big improvement for the Bears. At least he isnt going to throw interceptions all the time or get mentally rattled by pressure and start hearing voices.
