Rice says Bruce can wear #80

One of the questions that came up when the 49ers signed Isaac Bruce was the issue of whether or not he would wear #80. Bruce always wore 80 with the Rams, but of course that was the number of the legendary Jerry Rice.
When asked Rice said it was ok if Bruce was allowed to wear it.

Jerry Rice always was and always will be a class act. Some guys get a little uptight about these matters, but not him.

I think part of it was that he didnt want to sound like a stingy guy. I dont think he was entirely ok with it, i dont think anyone would be

He can wear the number...but can he fill the shoes of the man who was the greatest receiver of all-time?...of course he had two legit HOFers throwing to him.

No, of course not -- especially not at this point in his career!

According to the article, not only havent they retired no 80, but they havent retired Young's, Montana's, or Lott's. They will in the future. Yeah, I know dumb but thats what it said.

No one except you has asked him to fill the shoes of the former no. 80 in San Fran. He was a no. 80 before so all thats being discussed is what no. does he wear in San Fran.
