| Vernon Davis is crying for the ball ![]() Tight end Vernon Davis, frustrated at having so few passes thrown his way in the first two games, spoke to coach Mike Nolan over the phone and visited him in his office earlier in the week. Davis has four receptions for 27 yards and no touchdowns. "I admire him for having the courage to do it," Nolan said. "He said, 'Coach, I want to know what I can do to get the ball more.' I said it's about being prepared. Any player that wants the ball more, or wants to play, they have to maintain their work ethic. The real key now for him is that he continues to work." | Re: Vernon Davis is crying for the ball Well, really, you'd have to go back and check the thrown-to stats vs. the receptions, then check and see the coverages. Is the dude even managing to get open? We like to put all the onus on the QB in this situation, but the team is 2-0. That tells me Smith has got to be doing something right, and maybe it really is Davis who needs to step up his game. Perhaps someone who's seen more of the Niners this year can chime in and evaluate for us?
