Davis certianly is an exceptional athlete, but I'd think they have to address more pressing needs than this, as Johnson is at least a servicable tight end. Defense is definitely the way for the Niners to go.

Your probably right L-Noob, they might be able to draft Leonard Pope in the second round if they want a young tight end. Does anyone know his draft outlook?

Well, Pope's got good size at 6'7", 250. There's some question about both his speed and his physicality. Many think he's not fast enough or tough enough at this point to contribute immediately, but those things are coachable. Hands are another possible issue, though he did have 39 catches for 541 yards and four touchdowns this past season. Haven't heard a round projection on him, though.

On the other hand Davis seems to be a big time NFL type player. Why not draft him and trade Johnson for something/someone else you need to fill another hole. If Davis becomes an elite TE you open up all kinds of options in your offensive plans. remeber this is a team that is building not a player or two away. They need to think long term not immediate.
