As this article points out, a lot of people came into the season thinking the 49ers were the worst team in the NFL, and Chicago did put a hurtin' on them Sunday. Yet, they do have two wins, and Detroit, Arizona and Green Bay all look like they're winnable games. So how good is San Francisco right now? Are they a 4-12 team? 6-10? 8-8?

Personally I could see them losing to Arizona and Green Bay but at best, they will lose the Green Bay game of those three

According to David R. Moody of SFGate Niners Turf blog. The Niners are terrible now but do show some promise especially on the offensive side of the ball and still need more time:

In short, yes the Niners are pretty awful right now, but it will take time to undo the damage of the Donahue/Erickson years. Look at the Bengals--only now emerging into respectability after being the laughingstocks of the league for years.

Since the Niners won against Minnesota, does this make them a 5-11 team now? The way I see it, as long as they can show improvement every year, I'm happy. Of course, I've been watching the 49ers since '81, the glory years. Alex Smith isn't there yet, but he is showing some promise. Even Joe Montana took three years to show good.

All I can say is I am pretty shocked at the Niners win...if they could get Frank Gore going more than they have been they might actually have a potent offense

San Fran wins another one, 19-13 over Detroit to improve to 4-5 on the season. Tough schedule ahead for the Niners, but Arizona and Green Bay are games I'd think they could very well win, so at this point, 6-10 is eminently possible.

Not this year...but they seem to be building up a pretty good foundation...for a team that's moving that is...

Well, I'm a happy fan this year, they have surpassed their win total from last season alrerady. Unless Seattle and St. Louis fall flat on their faces, the Niners will not go to the playoffs, but they will make it interesting.
