49ers uncertain of Crabtree's appearance at camp

The 49ers arent sure of when they will see their top pick, WR Michael Crabtree in camp. The team and Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker, are talking but arent close to a deal yet.
Since Coach Singletary also held out in his career, he knows its just part of the game.
Singletary praised Crabtree's work ethic and says he is sure he is conditioning on his own.

From what I read, his agent Eugene Parker is noted for trying to get more than usually paid for high picks. Dont discount Crabtree yet.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think he'll be a darn good WR, but just a diva WR.... yea, I hear he was the tenth pick but wants to get paid like a top 5 pick!

He doesnt, his agent does.
I think lots of times we come down on the players in these money things when actually its the agent being greedy. Not always, mind you, but often enough.

But even if it's the agent that had the idea, Crabtree could say, "Just take the money that a tenth pick should get, and let me play!" and he would be in camp.

He doesn't have to go along with the agents greed.

Re: 49ers uncertain of Crabtree's appearance at camp

I would love to see a rookie salary cap implemented in the NFL. It would solve a lot of these hold out problems and let the rookies concentrate on what they are getting paid to do learn the playbook and assimilate themselves into the pro system. I don't think unproven rookies should make more than veterans nor do I think it is good for team chemistry for these guys to be out of training camp while the rest of the team is preparing for the season

I totally agree on this. Its just crazy when they come in asking for more money than a proven veteran makes.
Last night I heard on NFL Access that he is threatening to sit out for the season. Someone ought to pick him up by the scruff of his neck and sit him down alright.

Re: 49ers uncertain of Crabtree's appearance at camp

I read article about that this morning but his agent is saying he doesn't know anything about it that negotiations are going well. He's an idiot if he chooses to do that. Ruin your career before it even gets started

I disagree...the Draft is a draft based on "potential"...and a player no matter how good or gifted always puts his career on the line when he plays because of the nature of the game...

It is agreed (generally) that Crabtree at the 10th pick has more potential then Bey at the 7th pick...if that is the case, there is nothing wrong with Crabtree saying to San Fransico..."Look, folks, you were all giddy that I was available at #10 because you know you would not draft Bey over me, like that fool Al Davis...so now, its my turn...and I want to be paid like the "potential" superstar you were happy to get on Draft day."

Crabtree's contract also has nothing to do with being a rookie...

I can come to a compay who has 20 project managers older and more experience than me, and say..."Hey, you guys wanted me for what you think I can do, based on what I did at my last company...so put your money were your mouth is and pay me as such"...which by the way they did when the latest company hired me away from a competitor...

In short, what I or Crabtree can negotiate for ourselves has nothing to do with the price of rice in China, Eli Mannning's latest contract, or the fact that Roger Stauback never made more than about $250,000 in a season...its called "a free market economy"...something that America once upon a time believed in...

You have already proved what you can do with your last company. Your new company knew that, and they werent taking much of a chance.
So what if Crabtree sits the season out, then what happens?

Same with Crabtree, he had proven himself in college, thus he was a first round draft pick...and there are no sure things...I could have failed just as easy in my new job.

No Goth, college and pro ball are two entirely different animals. Dont try to say they arent. Thats why so many top college players flop on their face in the NFL.

Bette, what am I going to do with you?

Crabtree is not saying he is better than say Randy Moss...

Crabtree, having proven himself in college, is saying that he is better than the 7th pick of the draft (which in college and potential wise he is) and thus should command more money than Oakland gave their first round draft choice...

All rookie contracts are negotiated on potential, on their college career, and on the measurements they posted in the combine etc...

What do you not follow in that logic?
