| Brian Giles trade rumors Brian Giles almost became a member of the Boston Red Sox this weekend. Giles was claimed by the team, but according to Yahoo! Sports, "Giles exercised a clause in his contract Friday morning and nixed any possibility of a trade." Funny to note that the trade would've had him playing alongside the man he was trade to San Diego for, Jason Bay. So what does this mean for Giles' future with the Padres? | Re: Brian Giles trade rumors Giles had the right to veto the trade and he did so. It wouldn't have been such a good pickup for the Sox and here is my reasoning at another forum where we were talking about Ortiz and his injury being the reason they want him: If Ortiz is hurt wouldn't they want someone with more pop in his bat? All Giles is good for now is walking you can't really expect him to make a major impact for a team trying to make it to the play-offs. A smarter choice would be going after Aubrey Huff he has more pop, and he wouldn't be as hard to get. I don't really know his contract status ( Huff) so i'm not sure if the Sox would want him for more than a year. Although, Giles would probably see his HR total go up leaving PETCO |
