Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

The Padres losing streak is a again put to a close when the Pads took apart Cruz in the first inning for nine runs. They even had to take him out in the first inning. How emabarrasing for Cruz. In this "pitchers duel", The Pads scored a total of fourteen runs to the DBacks ten.

Next up for the Pads is a three game series vs. Seattle

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

109 pitches is a lot for only 5 innings of work. I don't know what the average pitcher throws but 22 pitches per inning is considerably too many.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

In the Padres first game of their series with Seattle, and the second game of their hopefully long losing streak, both starting pitchers lasted six innings. Young from the Pads gave up three runs and Washburn from Seattle gave up two. The Padre bullpen gave way and they lost 7-4. Next up for the Pads is Hensley who is 2-2 with a 3.70 era and for the Mariners its Meche who is 3-2 with a 4.84 era.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

In game number two of Pads vs. Seattle, the losing streak is extended to three. The Padres who lost by a score of 6-3 have one more game with the Mariners. Today for the Pads, its Chan Ho Park who has a not too shabby 3.27 era. For the Mariners its the 2-5 Felix Hernandez. Let's go Mariners and lets make the streak four.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

YES!!!! thats three in a row for the Pads and a sweep in the Seattle series for the Mariners. Even tho the Friars scored seven runs on Hernandez, Park gave up ten runs in five innngs before giving the ball up to the bullpen. Up next for the Padres is Atlanta who is 22-22 and four and a half games behind the Mets in the East. Starting pitchers are the Padres ace Jake Peavy and for the Braves its SMOLTZ who is doing a fabulous job starting this year. Doing the chop, Go Braves.

So I was shopping for a pitcher in my fantasy league and a little voice told me that Parks had pitched great his last three outings...I listened to that voice...and bam, back to the old Parks...10 ER in 5 IP...

Barely hung on to a 6-3-1 win this week...I promptly dropped Parks for Moyers...

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

Do you guys know that Chan Ho Park has a huge (like $86 M) contract that he signed for (I think) eight years with the Texas Rangers in the 2001 season?

I just wanted to share that with you.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

And the streak is four thanks to our good friend John Smoltz. Interesting story, I saw him at the mall yesterday. He was with a few other players that I didn't recognize (well how do I know they are players?) just guessing. Anyway the Padres lost 3-1 to the Braves. Smoltz and Peavy both pitched seven but Smoltz didn't give up any runs. Tough loss for the Pads. Next up is Mike Thompson for the Pads vs. Sosa for the Braves. This is Thompon's only second start but Sosa is 1-5 with a 5.55 era. I'm looking for five in a row.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

Smoltz and Peavy both pitched well, but Smoltz got the win for the Braves. At least this start lowered Peavy's ERA!

I wonder what John Smoltz was doing in the mall. Was he shopping, or signing autographs for the fans? He could've collected some extra money for just picking up his pen and drawing a few scribbles.

I'll do it for free.

Marc,
I think he was just getting finished with dinner. He was actually on his cell phone when I passed by. He seems like a cool guy but obviously didn't want me to come up and talk to him and ask him for an autograph. He noticed that I recognized him. Plus he doesn't look as Jewish as he does in his pictures. Just an interesting tidbit.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

Well the streak has been cut short, AGAIN. The Pads had another great pitching day yesterday in their win over the Braves. In their win by a score of 2-1, Thompson gave up only one run on four hits. The bullpen closed it out and the save by Hoffman did the trick, his eighth. Sosa for the Braves did not pitch much worse. He only gave up two hits and one earned run.

Today on the mound its Young for the Pads who has a 3.58 era versus Thomson for the Braves who has a 2.76 era. Young has nine starts and Thomson has eight. These two guys are pretty evenly matched up. And actually so are these two teams.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

The Pads lost in their final game of the series to the Braves. Lets hope this lasts. There is a good chance that it will because the Pads have St. Louis coming up and after that is the not so easy Rockies. There is a great chance for a big slide here in the next few days. But first its a day off for the Pads.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

In the first game of this fairly important series the Cardinals are putting Suppan on the mound. Suppan has nine starts this season and a 5-3 record with a pretty high 4.50 era. For the Pads is Hensley who has started seven games this year is 2-3 with a 4.37 era. With a big series against the Rockies coming up next, the Pads had better gain some momentum. The Cardinals, who have pulled away from the Reds recently, want to make it eight wins out of the last nine. I'm hoping they make it eleven

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

The first game went to the Pads and the losing streak is again cut off. DARN !!!! %@#!*. Anyway the Padres Hensley pitched flawlessly giving up only one run on five hits. The save went to Adkins. Suppan gave up seven in six innings before quitting after 120 pitches.

Today on the mound is an oldie but goodie for the Cards, Ponson. This guy has been around. In his six starts he has a 3-0 record with an impressive 2.81 era. Park is on the mound for the Pads. HO HUM..Lets go Cards.

Re: Padres losing -- make that, WINNING -- streak

The streak is back up to one. Boy anything would be better than the Padres winning the West. Ponson only lasted five innings and 75 pitches yesterday versus the Pads. The Card's bullpen did a heck of a job saving the game for them. Park went six, gave up for runs and the Pad's bullpen held them scoreless for the last three innings. Tough loss for the Pads.

Today on the mound for the rubber game in the series is the Cardinal ace Mulder vs the Padre ace Peavy. This should be a pitchers duel but you never know. I know I'm rootin for the birds tho.
