Padres want Andruw Jones

Word is that the San Diego Padres could offer free-agent OF Andruw Jones a one-year, big money deal for 2008. Would that be a good move?

Depends on what other offers Jones can get. If the money is right, he may have to take a one year deal and have a better 2008. Then he can really cash in next off-season.

But can the Padres offer him that kind of deal?

Well, it is just a rumor. Who knos, maybe they think they're close enough that a guy like Jones can get them over the hump and deep into the playoffs next year.
