Maddux breaks MLB record

Padres P Greg Maddux has become the first pitcher in Major League Baseball history to win at least 10 game in 20 consecutive seasons, earning his 10th win of the season with a 14-3 victory over Philly on Friday. He's now just one 10-win season away from tying Don Sutton for most 10-win season (non-consecutive) in a career as well. Maddux's respose to this amazing feat? "I didn't know that. That's cool."

Cool Re: Maddux breaks MLB record

Oh. When I read the thread title, I thought it was going to say that he set the record for taking himself out of the most games after throwing 70 pitches.

7 innings, 81 pitches yesterday. And in his last four starts before that, he threw 73, 91, 72 and 86. Granted, he's getting old so those counts are down a bit, but unlike the Roger Clemenses, Randy Johnsons and David Wellses of the world, this guy can actually still give you fairly consistant quality outings. Can we please cut Maddux just a little slack?

A lot of ballplayers say they like to completely ignore the media, so they don't watch ESPN or read the sports pages of newspapers. Maddux must be one of them. Maddux is a great pitcher, one of my faves. Glad to see that he's still this productive. Definite first-ballot Hall of Fame material.

I agree on th efirst ballot call but doesn't the team keep an insane amount of stats ... right down to what each and every pitch was and how it was called ? I'm not saying he did know but there are just so many stats out there ......
