Gwynn statue at Petco Park

Yesterday, the San Diego Padres unveiled a statue of soon to be Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn near the outfield wall at Petco Park. According to the Associated Press, "the 9 1/2 -foot statue... shows the former batting star in mid-swing. The base bears the inscription 'Tony Gwynn, Mr. Padre' on the front and a quote from his late father, Charles, on the back: 'If you work hard, good things will happen.'"

Well, yeah...but great bat speed and a keen eye helps a little.

Gywnn was a hard worker...watched a lot of pitchers on tape as well.
