San Diego vs. New York

The Padres and Mets started a three-game series yesterday, with San Diego taking Game 1 by a 5-1 score. Mike Cameron homered for the Padres, and Michael Barrett drove in three runs while David Wells allowed just one run in six innings. Game 2 is set for 10:05pm tonight and will feature an Orlando Hernández vs. Jake Peavy pitching match-up.

Re: San Diego vs. New York

The Mets won on Tuesday, but San Diego came back to take the series on Wednesday.

According to the Associated Press, "For five innings, the New York Mets got a taste of vintage Greg Maddux... The 41-year-old right-hander was hitting the corners, his pitches had wicked movement and he had a 4-0 lead. The San Diego Padres nearly wasted his brilliant effort before Geoff Blum singled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the eighth for a 5-4 win over the Mets on Wednesday night."

Maddux left the game in the fifth after feeling a twinge in his hamstring, but he should be fine and the Pads were able to hang on for the win.

Re: San Diego vs. New York

When David Wright hit that game tying three run homer in the 8th....the Mets should have won. But Joe Smith has run into a rough patch as of late and allowed the go ahead runner.

As an aside, Trevor Hoffman's entrance is another one of the great closer entrances in the bigs. lol
