Maddux wins No. 336

Padres P Greg Maddux won his 336th game yesterday, notching with first complete game in two years in the process. According to the AP, "Maddux needed only 96 pitches to throw a five-hitter and the San Diego Padres beat Cincinnati 7-1 Monday night to hand the Reds their fourth straight loss... Maddux retired the first 16 batters he faced, struck out five and walked none in his 109th career complete game."

Yeah, I'm with you, Gotham. What Roger's been able to accomplish physically is astonishing, but I love the cerebral approach Maddux brings to the game. He's always been one of my favorites.

oh really ............. actually i find this more impressive

Strikeouts in 9 innings by a single pitcher
20 Roger Clemens, Boston, Sept. 18, 1996 at Detroit.

20 Roger Clemens, Boston, April 29, 1986 vs. Seattle.

Neither has ever come up big in the post-season. Clemens failures with Boston are well-documented, from his mediocre performance in 86 against the Mets to being tossed against Oakland. He won one big game for the Yankees against seattle and that was it. madduz for years did nothing in the post-season as well, but at least he travels with his team.

Re: Maddux wins No. 336

Maddux update - he won his 340th career game today, beating San Francisco 4-2. According to the Associated Press, "The 41-year-old Maddux gave up one run and five hits in seven innings. The soft tosser won an intriguing duel against one of the majors' top up-and-coming power pitchers in 22-year-old Matt Cain (2-9)." So what's the secret to his continued success?

He makes them hit the ball where he wants them too. He has great control.

Could we see 2 pitchers get to 350 wins this season?
