Then he promptly went out and gave up four runs in the ninth inning to blow his second straight save opportunity, the first time he's done so in a decade. What's wrong with the San Diego closer?

The Saves cateogry is the most overratedicategory of our time. 20 years ago, closers used to pitch more than one inning at a time. Sparky Lyle was as good as Hoffman. If he pitched today, he would also have a million saves.
