Former Los Angeles Angels pitching coach Bud Black has been hired as the new skipper of the San Diego Padres. Padres CEO Sandy Alderson told the Associated Press that Black was "an individual with intellect as well as an instinctive feel for the game... He understands what we're trying to accomplish here in San Diego, which is to win as well as develop players at the minor league level. He just seemed to have the right package of qualities for us." Good hire?

Great move. Black deserved a job somewhere in the past few years and he gets to stay in California. He should do well in SD.

As much as Im gonna miss Boch I am excited to see a new change with Bud Black. I agree he should have been a manager some years ago and I think its a perfect fit for both the Padres and Bud.
