Padres Trade Josh Barfield

From MLBTradeRumors is where I found out about it. Earlier today, the Padres traded stud 2B Josh Barfield to the Cleveland Indians for 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff and RP Andrew Brown.

The site hints they could go after Marcus Giles via a trade. His brother Brian Giles is on the squad.

Re: Padres Trade Josh Barfield

Kouzmanoff is the kid who hit a grand slam on the first major league pitch he saw, pretty impressive. He's probably gonna have decent power, so this might not be such a bad move for San Diego. The Padres are desparate for some solid bats after yet another postseason offensive meltdown.

Re: Padres Trade Josh Barfield

Is that a legit site? It seems like a blog to me.

If the trade is true, it looks pretty fair from my standpoint. However, I don't track these players that closely since they aren't in my region. I remember discussion Kouzmanoff but I am not sure about his potential and his equality to Josh Barfield, who is decent.

Re: Padres Trade Josh Barfield

MLB.com and ESPN are also reporting this story, so it's true.

Kouzmanoff hit 3 homers and drove in 11 RBIs in 16 games during the 2006 regular season.

Barfield hit 13 homers and drove in 58 RBIs over the course of 150 games during the regular season.

I have to say that the Indians got the better part of trade...

Re: Padres Trade Josh Barfield

The Padres havnt had a any luck in the past 5 years at third base and I hope this guy is going to provide what there looking for. Hopefully it doesnt turn into another burroughs singles hitting thirdbasemen because at PETCO all power numbers are down and third base is a position that you need to generate power from.

Re: Padres Trade Josh Barfield

barfield is a steal for the indians. speed, pop in the bat, dencet def, and very young.

Kouzmanoff has very bad back problems, which is why im surprised someone traded for him. also cant play the field very well. But he has talent and wish him the best.

Re: Padres Trade Josh Barfield

That may be a problem BadtotheBone...getting power from third base. As you said, especially in PetCo, this kid will have to adjust to the larger dimensions. But you never know, he could develop power sooner than later.
