| LB smith signed to Chargers Derek Smith, released Tuesday by the San Francisco 49ers, agreed to a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Smith had at least 23 tackles in each of his first 9 NFL seasons. Patrick Willis, rookie NFL defensive player of the year, took over Smith's role as leading tackler and defensive leader. LB Smith agrees with Chargers 5 days after 49ers released him Smith is an 11 year veteran. Will he help the Chargers?
