The San Diego Chargers have brought back Hall of Fame receiver Charlie Joiner, the franchise's career receiving leader, to replace the fired James Lofton as receivers coach. This is Joiner's second stint as receivers coach in San Diego; he coached the position from 1987 to 1991 after retiring.

Well, okay, so now the Lofton firing sort of makes sense. Joiner has much the same (if not better) credentials and has ties to the team.

That's what I thought. So they arent quite as stupid as we thought they were.

He was one of my favorites growing up. He made some amazing catches from Dan Fouts. I just don't know if he can teach what looked so natural to him.

It still doesn't make much sense to me. What did the Chargers receivers do wrong? I thought they played well.

Probably nothing in particular, but they probably feel they have upgraded to someone who has ties with the team. And he has coached there before so they know what they are getting.
