San Diego Union Tribune, CA - 2 hours ago
The Chargers have billed the city of San Diego $1.4 million for revenue lost last season because of seating changes made in 2002 to accommodate disabled fans at Qualcomm Stadium.
The city, as the stadium's owner, was required to remove some seats and reconfigure others to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Chargers claimed they lost money because of the changes and sought compensation for unsold tickets, concessions and merchandise.
The city and the team argued about how much the Chargers should be compensated before agreeing to state arbitration in 2005. Last year, the arbitrator ruled the Chargers are entitled to reimbursement for unsold seats in the disabled seating sections and for seats that were removed to accommodate the disabled.
Under a formula outlined in the ruling, the team can bill for ADA-related losses for every home game when at least 90 percent of tickets are sold in the club level and general admission sections.
