Drew Brees Trade?

Definite conflict among the Charger brass, with Drew Brees at the center of it.

Bolts coach wonders if club's on same page

INDIANAPOLIS – While seemingly everyone else was offering an opinion on the Drew Brees situation the past few weeks, Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer was relatively quiet.

Not so yesterday.

Choosing his words carefully, and pausing at times to weigh their potential impact, Schottenheimer said he wants Brees back and believes the Chargers will be even stronger with him.

Later, he acknowledged an icy relationship with General Manager A.J. Smith and said he was uncertain if everyone in the organization is pulling in the same direction.

“I think it's important that there always be communication between the coach and the general manager,” he said during a break at the annual NFL Scouting Combine. “I've sought to see that realized, but, quite frankly, there hasn't been as much communication as I would like.

“I think we all understand that ours is a very difficult, competitive enterprise, and in my opinion it's important that everybody is aimed in the same direction.”

Is that the case with the Chargers?

“We'll have to maybe wait and see,” he said.

...

“In my opinion, we're better off if Drew Brees is here,” [Schottenheimer] said. “We've all come to realize that it takes more than one quality quarterback in this league to be successful. If he's able to recover from this injury – and I'm optimistic about that – I think it gives us an advantage.”
Smith and Spanos don't seem to want Brees around. Marty does. Of course, Smith and Spanos don't seem to want Marty around either, but its hard to fire a coach when he's been such an asset to your franchise. Man, what a mess this has turned into it. It's like a doggone soap opera!

Again, It is amazing what money does to the innocence of the game. The owners have a rightful stake in this and that is a huge nickel to spend on two quarterbacks.

Schottenheimer loves Drew Brees as a player. Brees being hurt really muddy's the water. This is not a pure football decision. The money is huge and to spend it on two quarterbacks will cause the team to suffer somewhere else.

Of course Marty S. wants Drew Brees back. Marty built the guy. He puts all that work into developing him and making him fit and finally getting him to succeed and now the Chargers wanna cash him in? I feel sorry for Marty, but thats what coaches do right?

Drew Brees Trade!

Who would have thought that the real-life football off-season could be as fun as post-season Madden NFL play?

Hee hee...how about Schottenheimer, Brees, Ben Johnson to the Texans for David Carr and the No. 1 pick? Just to mess things up a little.

Hey, it would work in Madden...

How about Pennington straight up? To think that three years ago, both San Diego and New York were anointing their QBs as The Savior.

Seriously, though, what could the Chargers get for Brees?

Cool Its not the Money...Its the Height...

Does anyone seriously think its the money?...or the injury etc?

Poor Drew Brees has been an underdog since he went into the draft as a 6-0 5/8 (give or take) quarterback. It does not matter what he does on the field...there will always be the "yeah but" factor about his height...

Anybody out there really think that a 6-3 to 6-5 Drew Brees with the same degree of success would be trade talk?...come on now...say it with me, "its not the money its the height"...

(PS...Wizard of Os...nice post...every GM should try it out as a Madden Trade first...)

Ah, poor Brees, poor Flutie, too.

Okay.

It's not the money, it's the height...it's not the money, it's the height.

Poor Drew Brees? Check out poor Doug Flutie, who got hung with that albatross his whole career. He'll always be the poster boy for short quarterbacks who were repeatedly dissed, despite constant displays of talent and clutch play.

And a drop kick.
