Last month Ron Artest was cited for neglecting dogs on his property, and now his troubles have escalated.

Authorities arrested the Sacramento Kings forward on Monday after a woman called 911 from his home saying she had been assaulted, Placer County sheriff's officials said.

Deputies responded to Artest's five-acre estate in the Sacramento suburb of Loomis about 9:30 a.m., where they found a woman who had suffered injuries, officials said. She declined medical attention.

Deputies arrested Artest on suspicion of domestic violence and using force or violence to prevent his victim from reporting a crime, sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin said.

"He and the female were in the house and separated," Erwin said. "The deputies interviewed them and took Mr. Artest into custody."


Artest was booked into the Placer County Jail and released later on $50,000 bail.

According to the AP, "Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest was arrested Monday and excused indefinitely from the team after a woman said he shoved her to the floor inside his home and prevented her from calling 911... Team spokesman Troy Hanson told The Associated Press that Artest had not been suspended and still was being paid."

But how could the Kings have done that? They haven't impaneled a jury of 12 of his peers yet. Gotham, you better call the ACLU.

Any player can be "suspended" from the team for " conduct detrimental to the image of the team". I think that this is especially in Artest's contract, given his past. He will still get paid, but trying to trade him now will be difficult to say the least.

I believe Artest has been dismissed, too. However, they still will have to pay his contract but they don't want to be associated with him.

At least that's what I heard. Props to The Maloof's if that's true.
