Rutgers vs. Navy Football Game

The Scarlet Knights (1-0) and Midshipmen (1-0) square off on Friday night in New Jersey. The Scarlet Knights made quick work of Buffalo last week and Navy was never at risk of losing to Temple.

Navy, in their win, only passed the ball seven times, completing three passes. They rushed the ball 56 times for 361 yards. If they want to beat Rutgers, they will definitely need some more balance than that.

Rutgers is coming off a major game in terms of offensive production. Heisman candidate Ray Rice rushed for 184 yards and 3 TDs. Receiver Tiquan Underwood caught 10 passes for 248 yards and 2 scores.

Rutgers is going to be pumped for this, at home, after last week's dominating performance. Can Navy come into Jersey and push them around? I don't see it. It may be somewhat close, but I'm prediction a Scarlet Knights victory by at least 10 points.

Re: Rutgers vs. Navy Football Game

Boy, I don't know. On the one hand, this is a Navy team that's supposed to be good enough to beat Notre Dame this year. On the other hand, they didn't exactly destroy the Owls, and Rutgers looks to be a better team than the Irish, at least at this point. Adam Ballard wasn't all that sharp. So I think the Scarlet Knights win, but it could be a close one.

Re: Rutgers vs. Navy Football Game

The Courier News cites Rutgers defensive tackle Eric Foster as saying, "Great defenses get takeaways. We have to do a better job of that.''

Hard to disagree. They'll be looking to get a pick or fumble against Navy...

Interestingly, Navy is one of three opponents to hold Ray Rice to under 100 yards rushing in a single game. If they can do it again, they probably deserve to win.

Let by 3 Ray Rice touchdowns, the Scarlet Knights won this one, 42-24.

"Navy is a tough, tough outfit," Rutgers coach Greg Schiano told reporters after the win. "I'm glad we have the victory and have this behind us."

What's up with Navy and their complete lack of a passing game? 12 attempts for 35 yards this week.

Only one punt for Rutgers although they had a large number of penalties...11 for 100 yards.

Their next "tough" match-up doesn't come until early October against Cincinnati.

That's just the Paul Johnson triple option flexbone offense. He doesn't throw the ball much. It's run, run, run.
