Rutgers WINS!!! Now Where Should They Be Ranked?

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated the #3 Louisville Cardinals moments ago, 28-25 and are just one of four remaining undefeated teams in the nation. Where should they be ranked after this weekend?

They were #15 going into tonight....can they crack the top 5?

No, I don't think so. It'd take an awful lot of losses for them to become a top 5 team. Realistically, I think 8-10 is more realistice, behind OSU, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Auburn, USC, Cal and maybe Notre Dame. Somehow, I don't think they'll wind up behind WVU, though with the BCS, you never know what kind of screwball stuff's going to go down.

I put them at number 8 or 9, they are still not better than the SEC

Re: Rutgers WINS!!! Now Where Should They Be Ranked?

I'd like to see how the weekend plays out for the top 10 before I rank Rutgers.
The way it stands right now I'd put them at #8. But I believe they could rank as high as #5 when all the dust settles after Saturday.

even thoe they beat louisville i still have no respect for rutgers b/c this could be just a fluke year and never happen again in Rutgers history

Rutgers was the first undefeated team in College football history with a 1-0 record when they first played the first game of College footbal with the score being Princeton 4 Rutgers 6.

So what? That should have no bearing on THIS year. The Rutgers defense completely SHUT DOWN one of the best offenses in the nation (some would put the Cardas in the top 3) for the entire second half.

They probably will be ranked around 7 or 8 in the BCS after this weekend but if they can go undefeated, they should be considered for the National Title game. If any team in any of the major Div-1 conferences can go undefeated, they should earn that right.

Re: Rutgers WINS!!! Now Where Should They Be Ranked?

I see the Rutgers reaching top 10 status, maybe 8 or 9. It was one awesome game. However, if Rutgers played in SEC or the Big 10 would they still be undefeated? It's great and a good accomplishment that they are, but I think that they won't repeat this next year, and maybe lose in the Bowl game.

Re: Rutgers WINS!!! Now Where Should They Be Ranked?

If Rutgers goes undefeated, they should be in the title game. I am sick of hearing about these SEC teams, they are way over-rated and as flawed as most of the country's other squads in one way or another. If Rutgers loses to West Virginia, then of all the teams with one loss- USC would be the most worthy if they don't lose another. They dismantled SEC "power" Arkansas, and would have beaten Cal and Notre Dame, besides other Pac-10 schools. But if Rutgers beats everyone they play, they deserve to go.

every year there are teams that go undefeated and dont attend the title game. However, usually they dont ever play a top team either. If Rutgers win out this season and doesnt attend a BCS game at all....then there would be a problem. It's looking like it'll be OSU and whoever can hold onto the #2 spot. Can rutgers really get up there with their remaining schedule??

This all gets back to preseason rankings, which seriously need to be abolished. An unranked team like Rutgers has virtually no chance of breaking into the top 5. Meanwhile, would you have Notre Dame as a top 10 team after the Michigan loss and the way they struggled against Michigan State, Georgia Tech and UCLA? NCAA, can we PLEASE let these kids play for a month and THEN rate which teams are the best, rather than doing it sight unseen based on spring reports?

AMEN !!!!! Sometimes a one loss team is the best in the nation...and sometimes a small conference winner is the best team. Unfortunately I think the BCS is stupid. STUPID STUPID. there...i feel better. I think that we're getting closer and closer to forming some type of play-off system. Every year there's something wrong with the rankings. This year it might be Rutgers. and NOW, there's talk about how if Michigan loses to OSU they could very well play OSU again in Arizona. That's a little messed up if you ask me. I believe no two teams from the same conference should be allowed in a BCS game. It's about playing other conferences to find out who's the best. GRRR

Actually, that's more if Michigan beats Ohio State, particularly in a close game. The issue is that the two teams may just flip-flop rankings and the rematch would be on in the BCS title game. The issue would become, how far do you drop the Buckeyes for that loss?
