Kris Cooke has accepted the Boilermakers scholarship offer to join them this fall as a defensive tackle.
He played one game as a NIU freshman before suffering a shoulder injury and receiving a medical redshirt. Additional family problems contributed to a poor academic performance and he transferred to Joliet JC for his sophmore season.
There, he collected 30 tackles (16 solos), including three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, in 11 games. The performance earned him Second Team All-American status.
"He's a big guy and he's going to be hard to move," Joliet JC head coach Jeremy Richardson said. "He was a big run-plugger for us up the middle. We rarely had teams drive on us up the middle because of his presence."
Cooke earned A's in all but one of his classes at Joliet.
