Joe Tiller retires

Purdue head football coach Joe Tiller has retired.

According to the Associated Press, "Under Tiller, the Boilermakers made 10 bowl appearances in 11 years, including the high point in 2000 when Drew Brees led the team to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1967 and was third in the Heisman Trophy voting." He's 65 and says he wants to get away from football and start fishing. Can't blame him there! He will be replaced by assistant and former Eastern Kentucky head coach Danny Hope.

Tiller to step aside after '08, to be replaced by Hope - NCAA Football - Yahoo! Sports

Do you think that Danny Hope's takeover will be a smooth transition?

It will be smoother than if they went out and tried to get bring someone from outside the program in.

Yeah, I think so. I get the impression Tiller's staff will remain mostly in tact, so it should go pretty easily.
