Darius Miles should retire. Not next offseason. Not next month. Now. Because even as he's showed up for his scheduled workouts this week, and even as he scrimmaged, a little, and even as he recently declared himself "99.5 percent ready," he isn't going to play another productive game of basketball, and his presence is a distraction. Said Miles, two weeks ago: "I'm just waiting for a green light from the team to play again." First, though, Miles will have to pass the team's basic conditioning test, which consists of asking the players to run a series of baseline-to-baseline sprints. LaMarcus Aldridge holds the team record, passing the test in preseason camp with 15 seconds to spare. Miles' best time, which came months ago, is almost 30 seconds slower than Aldridge's.
