Hot Randolph snubbed for All-Star game

Zach Randolph had 40 points and Jarrett Jack added 12 of his 20 points in overtime to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a 108-100 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night.

Re: Hot Randolph snubbed for All-Star game

Randolph carried Portland, scoring 30 or more points for the second straight game and the 13th time this season as Charlotte tried four different defenders on him. He made 13 of 27 shots, 13 of 15 free throws and grabbed nine rebounds and missed his career high by two points. "I feel like I'm up there with the best players in the league,'' Randolph said of his All-Star snub. "I guess I just get no respect doing the same thing other guys are doing. They're on winning teams and I understand that. But we're going to continue to get better and I'll get the respect I deserve.''

Either the Bob Cats can't play D or this kid is red hot and worthy of an All-Star nod...

I don't mind Zach Randolph not being on the All-Star team. His numbers this year are out of the ordinary, which certainly shouldn't count for much, but it does factor into the decision when all other things are equal. Another factor is the fact that he is a defensive liability in multiple categories. He has been having a good year, but I'd take both Shawn Marion and Josh Howard over him.

Gee to hear you talk he is a one dimensional player having a career year...but the boy out scores and out rebounds Howard easily in the same amount of playing time...Marion is currently a cut above...but I would argue that at this point in the season, it should be Zach not Josh on the team...

The only things he can do are score and rebound, but he happens to do both very well. He has a very nice touch around the basket and has really added a perimeter layer to his game. He also has a certain element of power that makes him tough to defend when he gets position on the low block. Even still, Randolph, for all his natural ability to score the ball, is still a black hole on offense. The Trail Blazers are more than willing to give him the ball, but once its in the post, it is never coming out. So, if you double down on the low block, you really hinder his ability to beat you on the offensive end. Defensively, he is absolutely nothing special. In fact, he is a liability.

I would take Howard every day of the week. His offensive game is burgeoning and he is a defensive stopper. You can have your stats, but I'll trust my eyes.
