Steelers draft Rashard Mendenhall

With the 23rd overall pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers have selected RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois. Great pick, don't you think?

Did Parker hurt himself last year?...so yeah, Mendenhall is a solid pick...I still like a few other backs over him...but still a solid pick...Lots of RB's gone in round one...

Honestly McFadden is the obviously the #1 back this year...but I saw his video, he gets tackled to easily, arm tackles and one-hitters take him down. Stewart is IMO the best back this draft, he has the power and explosion but doesn't have the second gear to outrun defenders. Then there are a few burners like Felix Jones who's not big or has any power at all, and then Chris Johnson who doesn't even grade out as a 1st rounder honestly.

I'm so excited about Mendenhall! 1st of all he's 20 years old. He runs the 40 in 4.45 so he's got some jailbreak speed and he's 225 lbs and packs a punch. Overall he's best suited for our offense over any other back in this draft, save for Stewart who obviously doesn't have Mendenhall's speed. So I'm very excited...oh and then we got Sweed in the 2nd round!!! The tall body that Big Ben's been asking for, somebody to stretch the field! Great draft so far I think!

Mendenhall and Parker will make an excellent backfield tandem. Steelers could have used a tackle, but anyone they drafted in this spot would've been a reach. I definitely think this is the best pick they could've made, given the situation, and the kid should pay big dividends for Pittsburgh.

We've been working and spending money to fill the backup roll to willie parker for a while now. The great thing about mendenhall is that he's only 20, and will be there when willie retires or moves on. I think if you are drafting for depth then go get a guy who's going to make a difference, and Mendenhall I hope is going to make one hell of a difference.

You see time and time again that teams are coming back to the two back concept...so that being the case, I would agree with you.
