Re: Ernie Holmes, Steeler Great, is Dead

He wasn't wearing his seatbelt when his car crashed and rolled. I wonder how bad his injuries would have been had he been wearing his seatbelt. R.I.P. Holmes.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer/Yahoo! Sports had an interesting story about Holmes and pro wrestling:

"--Ernie Holmes, the famous Pittsburgh Steelers football player who passed away at 59 last night in an auto accident, had a pro wrestling background. Holmes briefly worked for Georgia Championship Wrestling (as in a few weeks, before hating it) in the early 80s. Because he had some pro wrestling experience, he was in the 1985 Wrestlemania Battle Royal that included several NFL players. The night before, while in a bus coming back from the secret Battle Royal rehearsal, Holmes, who was about 320 pounds by this time, nearly got into it with Andre the Giant and basically the wrestlers had to scare him with Andre stories to make him back down."
