Steeler Defense of 74-78 or Bears of 85?

Who was the better defense. the Steelers of 74-78 or the one year wonder Bears of 1985?

I think I would take the Steel Curtain in this one.

Same here. Chicago was able to do it for one year. That Steeler D was dominant over a much longer period of time.

It drives me nuts when you guys do stuff like this?
The best is when you compare years ago offenses and defenses.
Its like comparing apples and oranges.
Got to be a male thing.

Am I the only one knows this, that the 1986 was statically better the 1985. But that doesn't matter, the Bears are better.

The Bears defense was the best I have ever seen play even if it was for one year.

You would say that anyway. Actually, if the Steel Curtain hung in there for four years, and it sounds like the Bears two at the most----
I have seen the Steel Curtain play. I will go with them.

It's not like I'm going say you are nuts because we are comparing the best if it's not like one is that much better than the other.

Decide to join our Reindeer games huh?...The Steelers took out Dallas in the Super Bowl twice those years...that's a feat...Dallas had a potent Offense in 1978, and were the 1977 defending champs...the Bears whomped on a sorry Patriots team.

Re: Steeler Defense of 74-78 or Bears of 85?

The Steelers D had to deal with far superior quarterbacks in its day, players like Tarkenton, Staubach, Pastorini, Sipe, Stabler, etc. The Bears defense faced few players of that caliber during their run. Once they stopped the run, it was all over. A guy like Staubach would have had success against those blitzing looks.

Cool Re: Steeler Defense of 74-78 or Bears of 85?

That 1985 Bears defense was the best I've ever seen in one year. That year, they were like the Patriots are on offense this year.

Deacon was a Ram...Steelers had Green, Ernie Holmes, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, Blount, Wagner and a host of other great ones...

That team could have been .500 or better without an offense. I don't know that about the Steelers
