Ben Roethlisberger contract

Yahoo! Sports and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are reporting that Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had been keeping a close eye on negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo. According to Yahoo!, that deal "will be a good starting point after the season when extension talks open for Roethlisberger, who has many more accomplishments, experience and one more Super Bowl ring than Romo." So what kind of deal do you expect Big Ben to come away with?

Re: Ben Roethlisberger contract

Big Ben is going to be stubborn and he's not as good as Tony Romo frankly right now so he doesn't deserve that type of cash. Plus the Cowboys spend money like water, the Steelers don't. This is an interesting situation. Anyone see Big Ben wearing another uniform soon?

Re: Ben Roethlisberger contract

I don't know if Pittsburgh would be cheap when it comes to Big Ben within the next couple of years. He doesn't want to feel cheated when he's got a Super Bowl ring and then a guy who hasn't played an entire year is getting such a large deal.

I'm with you though Tom, I don't think Ben is a great QB. In that Pittsburgh system, he's a perfect fit.

I guess Ben hasn't been told how a "free market economy" actually works huh?

Re: Ben Roethlisberger contract

The Steelers are notoriously tight-fisted, historically, but that trend's starting to change a bit. I don't think Ben's as good as Romo, but with they hype he's received and the fact that he's a Super Bowl winning quarterback (not to mention that they basically selected the coaching staff in part so that he could pass more), I think he'll wind up getting whatever he wants. Not to mention that he's an icon-in-training here in Pittsburgh, even got a sandwich named after him, the Roethles-Burger.
