Bruce Arians named Steelers offensive coordinator

With Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm both out of the picture, the Pittsburgh Steelers have promoted wide receivers coach Bruce Arians to the offensive corrdinator position. So what do you Steeler fans think about this hire?

Re: Bruce Arians named Steelers offensive coordinator

Ouch. First, the Steelers lose Bill Cowher, Ken Whisenhunt, and Russ Grimm. Then, they promote Bruce Arians to offensive coordinator.

Pardon the cliche, but his offense was offensive at times during his tenure in Cleveland in the same capacity. Sure, he was innovative at times, but they went hand-in-hand with the moments that were boneheaded. Let me paint you a picture: 4th and goal, on the 1, for the win. What does Arians dial into the offense? That's right, you guessed it, a double reverse.

He'll have some good moments, he'll have some bad moments. But, you'll have to live with him.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Bruce Arians, former offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns, has been promoted to the same job by new Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

The Steelers have not announced Arians' promotion, but Arians told reporters at the Senior Bowl he has accepted the position. Arians, the former coach at Temple, was the Steelers' receivers coach for three seasons.

The 54-year-old Arians replaces Ken Whisenhunt, who took over as Arizona Cardinals coach last week. Whisenhunt has hired two former Steelers assistants: special teams coach Kevin Spencer and assistant head coach-offensive line coach Russ Grimm.

Arians also coached in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs (1989-92), New Orleans Saints (1996), Indianapolis Colts (1998-2000) and the Browns (2001-03). He was Peyton Manning's first quarterbacks coach with the Colts, and was the offensive coordinator at Alabama and Mississippi State.

At Temple, Arians had two winning seasons in six years.

2 winning seasons at Temple in 6 years doesnt sound very good

and why hire a 34 year old head coach then a 54 year old coordinator ?

Nobody wins at Temple, though. Look at how bad they've been recently. In reality, I think this is more to satisfy Roethlesberger, who's gone public by saying he wants the Steelers to pass more. I fully expect Arians to be charged with just that assignment.
